I made up a word, but it fits. This birthday card is full of techniques and checks off all the boxes.

  • Using masks
  • Using dies
  • Blending
  • Two-step stamping
  • Gold leafing/gilded leafing
  • Bling
  • And a SALE!

I love this stampset. It’s featured in one of my very first blogs! It makes me look like an artist in minutes. In our family March starts with birthdays and ends with birthdays. I made this card with my mother-in-law in mind. I think she will appreciate the soft background and the gold bling. We are celebrating our daughter’s birthday this weekend. I’ve got a Gumball card in mind for her and need to get busy making it.

Stampin’ Up! announced a great sale for the month of March. The Mini Cut & Emboss machine is on sale 20% off and so are lots of stampset and die bundles. Normally the bundles are a 10% savings. In March a selection of them are offered at a 20% savings. Three of the bundles included aren’t bundled in the current catalog. There’s no savings on purchasing the coordinating stampsets and dies. But in March you can save 20% on them and an additional 10% on the others. I included the flyer below.

If you don’t already have the Art Gallery bundle the time to get it is now, during the March sale, and while supplies last. Purchased separately the stampset is $22 and the dies are $34, totaling $56! The sale price is $44.75! Click here to add it to your shopping cart.

I craft much like you probably craft. I look for ideas in the catalogs, on the public internet, and in the secret demonstrator places. Sometimes the idea I find translates to an exact or almost exact copy. Sometimes I wing it completely. For this birthday card I started with the stampset and built from there. I didn’t set out with a plan to incorporate lots of techniques, but that was the end result, and I love it.

In the video you’ll see how I determined the dimensions of each layer and tweaked them along the way. I used a color combination that I found shared in a color chart. I don’t think I would have ever chosen Blushing Bride and Melon Mambo, but it works! I used the gilded leafing technique from a card class last spring. Using masks is in the front of my mind; I’m not surprised that I used a technique with a mask to create a background.

My friend, Hope is partnering with me for a one day retreat on March 12th. We are including a technique class using masks. Thanks to a supply chain issue we’ve changed it up a little, but you’d never believe that if you saw the cards. The retreat is a great value with a huge goody bag valued at over $45 and a card class, a home decor class, and a technique class. We still have room (I know, we can’t believe it either.) so whether you are local or somewhere else in the US, register for this retreat.
